The Sunday rhythm for kids & youth at SAINT David's EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Sunday Schedule
Children's Chapel
Sundays at 9:15 a.m.
Ages: all
All are children and teachers begin Sunday morning together in Children's Chapel. This brief, child-led liturgy is inspired by the movements of the Eucharist. In this season, we welcome offerings of money or cans of cat or dog food to support animals in need.
Nursery
Sundays, 9:15-11:15 a.m.
Ages: 0-6 years old
Our youngest congregants will go from Children's Chapel to their own space of play, learning, and care. Nursery children will come into the service to join you for the Eucharist.

Godly Play
Sundays, 9:15-10:15 a.m.
Ages: K-3rd Grades
Elementary and early middle school children will gather each week after Children's Chapel for Godly Play, a delightful program of storytelling, wondering, and play. Children in grades K-6 are invited to join the congregation for intergenerational Eucharist at 8 or 10:30 a.m.
Older kids, grades 3-6, are invited to hold special responsibilities on Sunday mornings as Door Person Assistants. If your child is interested, reach out to Claire B. for more information!

Confirmation Class
Sundays, 9:15-10:15 a.m.
Ages: 7th-12th Grades
Upper middle and high school students are invited to join this special class led by Rev. C. On Sunday mornings, they will wrestle with various aspects of the Christian faith and the Episcopal way. They will ask and be asked good questions as they discern towards what confirmation might look like for them. Middle and high schoolers are invited to join the congregation for intergenerational Eucharist at 8 or 10:30 a.m.

Green Onions Workshop (GrOW)
A new class just for parents!
Sundays, 9:15-10:15am
This fall, we are launching a new venue for conversation and fellowship just for parents of kids and youth! Parents are invited to join their children for Children's Chapel at 9:15 before moving down the hall to their own space.
Each week, simple conversation starters and some background information will be provided to guide conversation about what kids are learning in both Godly Play and Confirmation Class.
Take-home encouragement will also be offered: commentaries on difficult texts, conversation starters for bringing home Sunday learning, and invitations to go deeper.
All parents of kids and youth are welcome to join GrOW at any time. Reach out to Claire B. with any questions!
other Ways to gather this Fall
Special Events
Loving Our Neighbors
There are many ways for kids and youth to get involved in service opportunities at Saint David's! Because children are full members of our community, you'll find them assisting on the Flower Guild, serving as lectors, and greeting newcomers at Welcome Cafe.
We have two special service events this fall especially for kids, youth, and their families. You can find more information about these at the links above or reach out to Claire for details.
Kids third grade and up are invited to serve as Lectors and Acolytes on Sunday mornings. To help them feel super confident in this role, we'll train your kid for either role. Reach out to Claire to get started!
MEET THE DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRIES
Hi, I'm Claire!
Our heart at Saint David's is to offer intentional spaces where kids and teens can be themselves, ask big questions, grow in faith, and build friendships that last.
Children are whole people, not just incomplete adults, and at Saint David's, we invite them to join fully in our efforts to live into the Kingdom of God. For our part, we adults are committed to taking them seriously, keeping them safe, and making sure there is room for them.
Your kids matter deeply to us - and they matter even more to God!

MEET THE NURSERY COORDINATOR
Rahn Carlson
Though Rahn Carlson became the Nursery Coordinator in 2024, she has been helping in the St. David’s nursery for over 10 years. Rahn was confirmed at St. David’s in 2008 after attending the Episcopal church for many years in Atlanta and Nashville. The Episcopal liturgy, St. David’s open and loving community, and the encouragement to learn and grow her faith drew her to the Church.
Each week, she delights in spending time with “The Littles” (the Six and under crowd) in the Nursery. She delights in getting to know the children as this is often their first church experience and their first deep relationship with adults who are not their parents.
Rahn is a native of Connecticut and moved to Florida with her family at age 13. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia to obtain her Master’s degree in Library Science at Emory University and remained there for 26 years, working both for two Fortune 100 companies and in academia focused on Research Information practice in business and technology. She was the original author of CNN’s Factoids.
Safety at Saint David's
At Saint David's, we are committed to the safety of all God's kids, and we take seriously the trust caregivers place in us to safeguard children spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
All adults serving with minors have passed a background check and been trained in the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee's Safe Church, Safe Communities course. All environments with children and youth are attended by at least two unrelated, screened adults.
If you have questions about our policies or safety procedures, don't hesitate to reach out to Claire.
A Prayer for the Care of Children
From the Book of Common Prayer
Almighty God, Heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
